Use prototype tooling to answer a defined product-development question before committing to a wider production plan. A useful prototype brief explains what the sample must demonstrate: part fit, Montage, material behavior, appearance or an aspect of the proposed molding approach.

Specify the resin grade or performance target and explain how samples will be used. A visual model, a machined sample and an injection-molded part can answer different questions. Discuss the required process and material before treating a prototype result as evidence for production.
Mark cosmetic surfaces and restrictions on gates, parting lines or ejection marks. Review undercuts, wall transitions and other features that influence the mold concept. Agree which details must represent the intended production part and where a prototype-specific approach is acceptable.
Start with DFM analysis to identify the questions that affect tooling. Review the proposed mold design, its assumptions and the agreed sample plan before proceeding. Evaluate the resulting parts against the defined checks. Record dimensions, observations, test conditions and any changes needed. Separate what the samples demonstrate from questions that still require further trials, validation or a different production tool. If the design advances, discuss mold validation and pilot production as the next project stage. A prototype approval does not, by itself, establish production capacity or every final-part requirement.
