Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) Molds

Silicone component tooling

Develop an LSR tooling brief around the silicone grade, part function and intended molding process. GPTMOLD reviews liquid silicone rubber mold enquiries for flexible components, seals, optical parts and multi-material designs.

Define the performance and inspection requirements first, then discuss the mold construction, material delivery, curing and part-removal approach for the project.

Decisions that shape an LSR mold

Material and function

Provide the silicone grade, target hardness and service conditions. For optical or contact-sensitive applications, define the required tests and documentation rather than assuming suitability from the material name.

Mold and process interface

Review cavity layout, runner concept, venting, curing conditions and part removal. Confirm the intended molding equipment and the process responsibilities included in the quotation.

Sealing and overmolding

Identify sealing faces, acceptable flash locations and mating components. For an overmolded design, specify the substrate, interface geometry and bonding or retention criteria.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Current part CAD and drawing revision, including critical sealing features
  • Silicone grade, hardness, color and appearance or optical criteria
  • Substrate details and interface requirements for multi-material parts
  • Expected volume, cavity preference, molding equipment and timing
  • Sample quantity, inspection plan and any application-specific documentation

Material compliance, controlled-environment production and special validation are confirmed separately for the agreed project.
